Back to School Special

Summer's almost over. It's time for one last getaway before school starts. We've wrapped up a Back to School Getaway Package that most anyone would enjoy. One phone call with a 5 minute conversation can reserve a perfect 2 night package with all the planning done for you. Ideal for a getaway weekend, ladies retreat, or romantic getaway in Michigan. Package includes 2 one hour massages, 2 dinners for two, plus 2 nights bed and breakfast. You could also book it online. Just pick the package and provide your personal information and we'll handle all of the details.

Jonesville is a great place to getaway to.  It's quiet, but it's progressive, friendly, and close by--so you will not have to spend a majority of your time getting here. Jonesville is less than a 90 minute drive from Detroit Metro Airport, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Toledo, Fort Wayne, or South Bend and is one of the best true getaway locations in Michigan. Leave the traffic and the crowds behind to come here and relax in the comfort of our great old house with plenty of distractions... if you need them--antique shopping, nature gardens, hike-bike trails, etc.

Both of you will enjoy a 1 hour massage by a "world class" home-town masseuse, a casual dinner for two at Saucy Dog's Barbeque on one night and a fine dining dinner for 2 at Olivia's Chop House on the other night, along with 2 nights Bed & Breakfast.

Girls Night Out Part 4-Free Day

Sylvia and her lady friends had 3 special events planned at the Munro House B&B in Jonesville. A Murder Mystery, a Spa Day, and a Chef Night Cooking Party. The final event was a free day of shopping at nearby Jackson Crossing Mall then dinner in the private dining room at Olivia's Chop House in downtown Jonesville.

The ladies had made the most of their girlfriend getaway weekend. They spent a lot of their time in our house or on our private patio talking and laughing and participating in our interactive parties. We could tell that they were all cut from the same mold and enjoyed each others company, immensely.

Jackson Crossing Mall is about 30 minutes away and was an easy day trip for these women. Upon their return, I noticed that most of their shopping bags came from T.J. Maxx. Their trip to the mall was very successful. Some of the ladies also found deals at Kohl's, Bed Bath and Beyond, and others.

They got all dressed up and enjoyed a fine dining experience at Olivia's Chop House. It is an easy 2 block walk from the Munro House, but they elected to drive rather than walk in their dresses and heels. They did their best to eat all of the generous portions offered at Olivia's but still had to commandeer space in our guest refrigerator for left-overs and dessert that was too good to pass up--mmmm, creme broule.

We love it when our guests come here and make themselves at home while enjoying each others' company. We try to make our house a home away from home for all of our guests. These women were particularly good at it and are welcome back any time.

Romantic Weekend Getaway Ideas

The Munro House B&B in Jonesville, Michigan, has some good ideas for your romantic weekend getaway. The packages include privacy and intimacy.

The privacy part is easy. Jonesville is located in South Central Michigan about an hour South of Lansing at highways 12 & 99. When some people plan a getaway, they go where the crowd goes. In my opinion, those locations are more touristy than romantic. You can mix the two, but a true romantic getaway involves the kind of privacy that can be found in a small town, away from the crowds, and away from the kids. Just time together, one-on-one, with your lover.

Intimacy can be achieved when there are few distractions. A small town like Jonesville may fit perfectly, as there are no amusement parks, tourist attractions, or long lines. There are things to do and excellent restaurants at a slower pace. This small town Michigan inn caters to romance, can give you suggestions and will make all the arrangements for a wonderful getaway with just one phone call.

A sample weekend itinerary includes:

FRIDAY

3-6 pm -- Check-in and tour of our historic home

7 pm -- Casual fine dining for 2 at Johnny T's Bistro

9 pm -- Video movie from our collection, popcorn, and relaxing Jacuzzi tub for 2 in your room

SATURDAY

8:30-9:30 -- Enjoy a big country style breakfast

10:30 am -- One hour massage for both of you in a private room onsite

1 pm -- Lunch at Saucy Dog's Barbeque

2-5 pm -- Browse hundreds of dealers in Allen, the Antique Capital of Michigan

7 pm -- Casual fine dining at the best restaurant in Hillsdale County--Olivia's Chop House

9 pm -- After dinner choice of movies at Premiere Theater

SUNDAY

8:30-9:30 -- Enjoy another country style breakfast

11 am -- Check out and farewells

Noon -- Wine Tasting in Southeastern or Southwestern Michigan, Outlet shopping in Angola, Indiana, or a nature trip to Hidden Lake Gardens near Brooklyn, Michigan

OPTIONS

Dozen Roses Floral Arrangement - nothing says "I Love You" better than roses

Chocolate Truffles - Indulgent, sexy, romantic

Spa Services - Manicure, Pedicure, Facial - Pamper her, and guys like it, too!

Golf - Spend time outside on a beautiful local course

We organize a lot of getaway packages at the Munro House in about 15 minutes. You can pick from our list of packages or we can create something special, just for you, on any day of the week. A wonderful romantic getaway is just a phone call away.

Romantic Getaway Package Near Detroit

The best thing about a romantic getaway package is the ability to get away from the traffic and the crowds to spend some quality time in a nice place with your lover. Jonesville, Michigan is that kind of place.  To go to a place where everyone else is going is just trading one rat race for another. To take a long drive when the weather is unpredictable can only add stress. To wait an hour for your table at a restaurant or to get shut out of a new release movie is something that rarely happens around here.

Here in Jonesville, a traffic jam is when the light turns red and you're next in line. A crowd of over 100 people may gather in church, or at the fairgrounds, or a midnight sale, but not at a restaurant, club, or theater. Our favorite eateries have unique variety, generous portions, friendly wait staff, and fair prices.  Our movie theater shows new releases on 7 screens. Our flowers are fresh, our rooms are comfortable, and our masseuses are world class--according to our guests.

Jonesville is the kind of place I grew up in back the 1960's.  Our little joke is that the 70's, 80's, and 90's haven't happened here yet. The only chain stores are fast food joints and gas stations--except for Wal-mart.  The locals are nice and we find strangers to be interesting. We are connected to the world by the internet, but are separated by geography. We are proud of our local history. We enjoy traditional activities.

The homes are warm, the food is delicious, the flowers are fresh, the masseuses are wonderful, and the prices are reasonable. Coming to Jonesville is like enjoying a little piece of heaven. This could be the break you've been looking for and it's less than 2 hours from Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Fort Wayne, and Toledo.

Michigan Day Spa and Massage for the holidays

It has been a very good month for a spa getaway in Michigan. It seems like almost all of our guests at the Munro House Bed and Breakfast and Spa have been in need of a massage. Endless shopping, year end business stress, and planning family get-togethers take their toll on many people's bodies.  Our highly experienced staff has been here to alleviate stress, sooth tension, and relax muscles in an unlikely spa haven surprisingly close to home.

Munro House is located at highways 12 and 99 in South Central Michigan just an hour from Lansing, Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, and Toledo; and just 90 minutes from Detroit, Kalamazoo, and Fort Wayne. It is not necessary to spend a lot of time driving to the far reaches of Michigan to enjoy a winter getaway when a short trip to Jonesville can refresh and rejuvenate singles or couples in need.

Our trained professionals have the time, patience, and knowledge to make your Michigan spa experience a good one by being attentive to your time and your needs. Massages at the Munro House last a minimum of one hour on the table. Many spas have a schedule to keep and need to turn over the table every hour on the hour. In these places, an hour massage includes time to undress, consult, and dress--that leaves only 50 minutes or less for your service on the table.  Relaxation is the key at the Munro House. 60 minutes is the minimum time our guests spend getting a massage. Testimonials from thousands of guests regularly include the same themes--amazing massage, personable knowledgeable staff, and total relaxation.

Ladies Spa Day

Very often, women want to get away and have a spa day. In Michigan, the Munro House in Jonesville offers spa packages 7 days a week, along with bed and breakfast.  Conveniently located within 90 minutes of Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Battle Creek, and Kalamazoo, the Munro House has several packages that combine meals, lodging, and spa services done in our historic home.

Local professionals provide their talent to perform manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, body wraps, and waxing.  Our most popular packages include the first 4 day spa services.  A couple of girls arranging a spa day is typical, but we have had bridal parties of 14 come here for a getaway. We are able to schedule enough workers so that everyone is continuously occupied for a relaxing day at our spa.  These four services usually take about 4 hours to complete.

The typical package has our guests arrive on a Friday and go out for dinner and retire to their room.  After breakfast on Saturday, the spa services begin for a totally relaxing day.  A fine dining experience completes the day.  After another good night of sleep, another breakfast is served on Sunday before our guests return home, refreshed.

Spring Break in Michigan

Now that winter is over, people are antsy for a getaway.  Some want to go South to Florida or West to Arizona.  Some want beach, some want heat.  Everyone wants a change of scenery.  But not everyone has the time. That's when a getaway to Jonesville, Michigan, may fit perfectly.

When time is the biggest obstacle, a getaway location within 2 hours of home is a very good option. There may not be beach or heat, but there is a change of scenery and a relaxed pace nearby.  Family owned restaurants dominate the area and onsite spa professionals are available most every day.
Jonesville is located in South Central Michigan near Jackson.  The central location is within 2 hours of Detroit, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Toledo, South Bend, and Fort Wayne.  Choosing Jonesville means that most of the getaway will be spent relaxing and less of the getway will be spent driving. Folks with just a couple of days or a weekend will find Jonesville a convenient location for their short trip.

The Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville, Michigan, is a leader in innovative getaway packages in the Michigan B&B industry.  Most packages include dinners and massages, along with 2 nights bed and breakfast.  Flowers, chocolates, movie tickets, and other spa services can be added to create a unique package for any occassion.
The staff consistantly gets high marks for the quality of the service.  Some of that is due to the amount of time that is spent on the table receiving the service.  At the Munro House, a one hour massage means one hour of massage on the table.  At most salons, an hour of massage means 5 minutes of consultation, 5 minutes to disrobe, 45 minutes on the table, and 5 minutes to get dressed.  That's right, at many spas, a one hour massage lasts just 45 minutes.  At the Munro House, one hour of massage means 60 minutes of massage.

Local favorite restaurants take good care of guests from the Munro House.  The food is plentiful and consistanly very good.  The service is friendly and consistantly very good.
Additional items can be added to make the occassion special.  Chocolates, roses, and movie tickets can be added for romance.  Manicures, pedicures, facials, or body wraps can be added for relaxation.

Valentine's Day in Michigan

Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville Michigan is celebrating Valentine's Day the entire month of February.  We have developed several packages for 1 and 2 nights, with romance in mind.  The packages can include chocolates, roses, dinners, massages, and movies.

Valentine's Day, 2010, falls on a Sunday.  Most romantics like to get away on the actual holiday, February 14.  Unfortunately, most people have to work on Monday, February 15, so an overnight stay on Valentine's Day is not an option for everyone.  However, some people will have Monday off of work if their company celebrates President's Day which falls on Monday, February 15, this year. They will be able to take in an overnight stay on Sunday night and not have to worry about going to work on Monday.

With our busy schedules, everyone's getaway plan is different and the opportunity to get away does not necessarily correspond with specific weekends or holidays. So if you are looking for a romance package at a bed and breakfast in Michigan, the Munro House B&B offers a selection of romantic ideas for your getaway on any day of the week--especially during the month of February.

Winter Getaway in Michigan

Christmas is over, New Years has been celebrated, and the next holiday on the calendar is Valentine's Day. But is a winter holiday necessary to take a weekend getaway in Michigan?  Some people call it cabin fever when there is a desire to get out of town for a few days in January and February. The cure for this ailment could be a weekend getaway to an interesting bed and breakfast in a small South Central Michigan town.  I'm talking about my town, Jonesville.

Jonesville is located at highways 12 & 99 about 20 miles North of the Ohio, Indiana, Michigan border. Toledo, Battle Creek, and Kalamazoo are all about an hour away. Detroit and Fort Wayne are about an hour and a half from here.  Chicago, Cleveland, and Indianapolis are a 3 hour drive. Near or far, we try to provide a great experience with a reasonable drive time.

Here, at the Munro House, we offer onsite spa services 7 days a week. We have professionals who can provide a manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, body wrap, and waxing services. A day at the spa or just an hour of massage can provide a great cold weather pick-me-up or alternative to just sitting home.

A wide variety of eateries are available from fast food to fine dining to what US Today once claimed was the best hamburger in the world at Ray's in Reading.

The pace is slower around here. Traffic jams are virtually non-existant, the food is good, and there is a lot of antique shopping within 10 minutes. Allen is the "Antique Capital of Michigan" and is just 5 miles away on highway 12. Several antique malls boast a total of over 1,000 dealers who display their treasures in a climate-controlled atmosphere. Dishes, tools, signs, toys, books, and lots of memories can be found here. The inventory is constantly changing so  there will always be a new selection of goods to peruse and reminisce about with you family, friends, or mate.  I am partial to the big red barn know as the Allen Antique Barn, but there is a big selection at Allen Antique Mall, Capital Antiques, and Hog Creek Antique Mall.

For those who just want to sit back, relax, and enjoy their mate, we've got rooms with big double Jacuzzi tubs, rooms with fireplaces, and musical instruments that include a baby grand piano, accoustic guitar, mandolin, and ukele that our guests are welcome to use.  Our movie collection has hundreds of titles and Blockbuster is just a couple minutes away for our movie lovers.

Of course, I'm going to bake cookies and have soft drinks available all of the time.  We also make a big breakfast 7 days a week.  We are famous for Lori's Secret Recipe Belgian Waffles, but we offer other things for breakfast, too.  A big bowl of fresh cut fruit along with coffee and juice is offered every morning.

If a getaway to Southern Michigan is what you are looking for, we are open 7 days a week through all seasons and will be happy to accommodate your needs.  Find out for yourself why "life is good in Jonesville."

Murder Mysteries in Jonesville Michigan

We have hosted hundreds of murder mystery dinners at the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville, Michigan. Most of our events are open for couples to join. We need at least 4 couples to play and have always been able to meet the minimum. Some of our events are private for groups of friends. We have hosted families, clubs, and many diverse groups of people.

We have the setup down to a science. We generally use a festive tablecloth with our antique china and adorn the table with candles. We have developed a menu that includes appetizer, soup, salad, entree, and dessert. A typical meal includes shrimp cocktail for the appetizer. We make our favorite seasonal soup. In the Fall, we serve our Harvest Soup for the second course. Our new house salad is spectacular. It includes our home-made dressing, dried cherries, glazed almonds, and Parmesan cheese. The main course is a beef tenderloin steak served with potatoes and vegetables. Lately we have been finishing the evening with our chocolate caramel brownies served with ice cream.

We spend a good part of the afternoon preparing the meal, so a prompt arrival time is imperative. Many of our guests purchase the two night package, so they are already in town. For those guests who buy the one night package, an arrival before 5:00 p.m. is required. The event starts at around 6:30, so we need our guests to have been checked in so that we can finish the prep work, uninterrupted.

The evening starts in the parlor with an introduction of participants and an explanation of how the game is played while the appetizer and beverages are served. We try to get a feeling for the personalities of the guests so that they all will get an appropriate role. Those people with the biggest personalities will get the biggest parts. Additionally, each player gets a hat from our costume closet. We have collected a variety of funky head ware that helps to lighten the mood and transform our peeps into their new roles. That means that there is no pressure for guests to find their own costume for an event at our house. We take care of it, and keep it simple.

The guests then move into the dining room and play the game while the meal is served. Each person has a 3 page script with 4-8 clues on each sheet that they must get into the conversation over dinner. The clues are very interactive and include topics that many participants have comments to insert. In the first act, each person learns a little bit more about their character. In the second act, there is a lot of finger pointing and innuendo. The third act is where everyone has an alibi--some are good, some are not so good.

When all three acts are complete, there is discussion over dessert about who-done-it. One by one the participants are asked who they think did it, and why. Then, one-by-one we tell you who didn't do it, and why. At the end, the clues that incriminate the guilty party are divulged and it becomes obvious who was guilty.
We always host a murder mystery that is open to individual couples on every Saturday night in November and on New Years Eve. Additionally, we hold events on the first weekend in January and on random dates throughout the year. We will host a murder mystery dinner on any available date with at least a group of four and six weeks notice. We will then fill up the table to play with a minimum of 8 total players.
We have even offered murder mystery luncheons for private groups only. It is a lower cost event and is generally done on a Sunday afternoon for private groups only. We need 8 to play with a maximum of 14 players. 12 is the ideal size, but all even numbers between 8 and 14 make for a good game.
We enjoy hosting parties at our house. We have developed our own style and have chosen games that are fun to play. Our goal is to have our guests have a good time whether they figure out the mystery or not. At our house it is more about laughing and having a good time than it is about studying your part and taking notes. The games we play can be figured out if the players pay a reasonalbe amount of attention to the conversation over dinner. On nights when no one does, it doesn't matter. Because this is a game, not a contest, so there is no pressure to win.
If you're looking for some good adult-themed fun with other like-minded couples, a murder mystery may be just the ticket. Check out our website or call 1-800-320-3792 to find out more about an upcoming murder mystery.

Spa Day Almost Interupted

We offer spa services 7 days a week at the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville Michigan. Most of our clients come here on the weekend for massages, but we also do manicures, pedicures, facials, body wraps, and waxing.

Last week, we had 5 women over for a girlfriend getaway. They came in Thursday, had spa services scheduled for Friday, and check-out on Saturday.

Late Thursday afternoon, the Jonesville Village Office called to inform us that the water would be turned off on our block for some maintenance the following morning at about 8:30 a.m.--no bid deal. We informed our guests and made sure that their shower was completed early, we filled some reserve containers with water, and planned our day accordingly.
Everything was going well until a jackhammer filled the air with noise just before the massages were scheduled to start. The workers were breaking up the street right in front of our house. Our massage room is on the second floor in the front of our house, so some adjustments had to be made.
We moved our services to the back of the house in vacant rooms away from the outdoor activity. The clients appreciated our proactive handling of the situation and upon completion of the services mentioned that they had not noticed the noise and were not inconvenienced by the new location of the services.

Our street was repaired, our water restored, and our guests refreshed. A day of potential problems was averted and 5 women left our house very happy.

Michigan Getaways - Ideas for Your Weekend Getaway

View Michigan Getaways in a larger map

Many people think about taking a getaway weekend in Michigan and the result is to go where everyone else goes--Mackinac, Traverse City, Saugatuck, or other touristy places. I guess that these folks are getting away from their hectic busy lives in Detroit, or Lansing, or Ann Arbor and replacing it with another hectic busy schedule in Mackinac, Traverse City, Saugatuck, or other touristy places.

I've got nothing against these places as a tourist destination. They are what they are. But to truly get away, thousands of people crammed into an otherwise small town located several hours away is not my idea of a restful weekend.

A quieter more relaxed location could be considered. That is where a place like Jonesville comes in. Yes, I am biased, but this small town has a lot to offer.

Here, at the Munro House, we can accommodate just 7 couples for overnight lodging. My friends at the Rooms at Grayfield can handle another 3 couples. With just 20 more people in town, there will be no traffic jams and long lines. There will be good food, a comfortable place to stay, and quality time to spend with your mate.

There are a dozen restaurants on the strip in downtown Jonesville. Fast food, ethnic cuisine, home cooking, and fine dining are among your choices. Two places also have hand dipped or soft serve ice cream. Aside from McDonald's and Subway, the rest of the choices are privately owned and operated.

The Chicago Water Grill is just 2 blocks from my house. It is the kind of restaurant everyone should live near. The food is consistently very good and the service is consistently very good, plus the value is high. They offer a nice selection of steaks and seafood along with ribs, chicken, and pasta. The portions are very generous. If you can save room for dessert, it will be worth it. On most nights, they will prepare flaming Cherries Jubilee or Bananas Foster, tableside, for your entertainment and enjoyment. It is easily the best restaurant in Hillsdale County and they regularly attract patrons from over 30 miles away.

Aside from the food and the lodging, our area is best known for antique shopping. Over 1,000 dealers have booths at one of several antique malls just 5 miles away in Allen, the Antique Capital of Michigan. Estate auctions are regularly scheduled throughout the area on various days, and an auction/flea market is set up every weekend at the fairgrounds. There are also over 300 lakes and ponds in Hillsdale County--some with public access, boat launch, and good fishing.

Jonesville is only about an hour from Lansing or Ann Arbor and just 90 minutes from Metro Airport in Detroit. Getting away to this small town will not take much travel time out of your weekend. Then you can spend some quality time in a gem of a small town. You might want to consider experiencing our top-rated massage therapists. Julie, Brandy, and Patricia have been consistently leaving our guests with an amazing experience they thought was only available in resort areas or full time spas.

We offer seasonal packages along with special occasion packages every day of the week. We host regularly scheduled Murder Mystery Dinners and Cooking Parties. Our most popular packages are for romance and can include roses, chocolates, dinners, lunch, massages, movies, and more. All you have to do is pick a day and make the call to us. In one phone conversation, we will set everything up for your tailor-made getaway package.

A true getaway is closer than you think.
