Lodging for NASCAR race fans near MIS

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) features the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday August 21 in Brooklyn Michigan. Over 100,000 fans are expected for the main race on Sunday, with smaller crowds on Friday for Pole Day and on Saturday for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series running of the VFW 200.

Many fans will arrive for a full week of activities at MIS. Most of them will be staying in their luxury RVs. The rest of the fans will arrive for 3 days, 2 days, or just 1 day of racing action. Many of these fans will be camping, as there is a shortage of hotel/motels within a half hour of the race track.

For those fans who want to avoid the possibility of camping during a heat wave or in rainy weather, the Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville offers rooms for couples who prefer a comfortable bed in a quiet house just 30 minutes West of the track on US-12.  This fine lodging facility is a step up from hotels and motels near MIS. Jonesville also has a dozen restaurants with cuisine ranging from fast food, to family dining, to fine dining. Fuel, ice cream, and a Super Wal-Mart are also in town to take care of your needs.

A great weekend of racing can be very comfortable when your headquarters is in Jonesville.

A Place to Stay for NASCAR Race in June at Michigan International Speedway

Camping dominates the lodging choices at MIS speedway in Brooklyn Michigan where hot or rainy weather can play a factor in comfort. Hotels and Motels near the track have been full for months. They get top dollar and demand 3-7 nights minimum stay. However, folks who prefer a more quiet, comfortable, and less-demanding experience could still find lodging available at the Munro House Bed & Breakfast in Jonesville, just 25 minutes from the track on highway 12.

All of the rooms are designed for 2 people. They all have a queen size bed, private bath, cable TV, and free high speed wireless internet. A big breakfast is offered every day, but a 'to go' breakfast is available for fans who want to get there early.

A full weekend of NASCAR racing at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn includes Friday June 17 featuring Raineater Wiperblades ARCA racing series. Saturday June 18 features Alliance Truck Parts 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Sunday June 19 features the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 Sprint Cup Series Race.

The party animals will be at the campgrounds. Folks who just want to enjoy a weekend of racing can find comfort in downtown Jonesville.

NASCAR Fans Stay at Jonesville Michigan Bed and Breakfast

NASCAR race fans have been coming to Southern Michigan for years to enjoy Sprint Cup Series races at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn.  Most of them will be in and out in a day for the big race. Many will be camping near the track. Few will get a good night sleep in a real bed.
The big issue is that there are not many choices for lodging near Brooklyn, MI. Brooklyn is a town of just 1,200 people. Nearby cities within 30 miles include Jackson, Adrian, Clinton, and Jonesville. Total population of these cities combines to around 60,000.  MIS has hosted over 150,000 fans for a single day of racing in the past. All of these people have food and lodging needs. The food part is relatively easy as more food can be brought in to feed the fans. The lodging part is a bit of an issue.  The best way to lodge the masses has been via campgrounds in and around the track.

Fans who don't mind camping have a plethora of choices. Fans who desire traditional lodging need to seek out hotels, motels, plus bed and breakfasts in Michigan.  The Munro House Bed and Breakfast is located about a half hour west of the track just a block off of US-12 in downtown Jonesville.  Seven lucky couples get a good bed to sleep in and a convenient location to enjoy the NASCAR races in Southern Michigan for the June and August races.  Call early to reserve or book online.

June NASCAR Race at Michigan International Speedway (MIS)

For the first time since I can remember, the June 2010 NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is not being held on Fathers Day Weekend.  It is being held on the preceding weekend, June 11-13, 2010. Folks who assume that the race will again be held on the traditional Fathers Day weekend, will be a week late.

With over 100,000 race fans expected at MIS, it is a good idea to check your calendar, make your reservations, and plan accordingly.

Lodging for NASCAR Races at Michigan International Speedway (MIS)

Once again, the NASCAR races are coming to Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI for two events--one in June and one in August.  The track has seating for about 140,000 fans, but there is lodging available for nowhere near that amount.  So race fans who want to make it a long weekend have to choose an alternate plan. The local hotels, motels, and B&Bs are usually filled with race teams, vendors, and other workers, so a bit of travel or a camping experience is what many fans choose.

August NASCAR Race at MIS in Brooklyn Michigan

The second, and most popular NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn Michigan takes place on Sunday, August 16, 2009. I don't know why it is more popular than the June race st MIS, but it is. It seems like we see a lot of new faces in June and a lot of familiar faces in August at the Munro House Bed and Breakfast.

Mike & Nancy have been staying at the Munro House for this race longer than we have owned the house--since 1999. If there is one sure thing, it is that these NASCAR fans will be back every year for the August race. They are the nicest people and love spending time at the track meeting old friends and finding new ones. They are at the track from dawn until dusk all weekend and seem to really enjoy the atmosphere. We check them in on Friday and rarely see them again until they check out on Monday. We know they come and go because we pack them a "to go" breakfast and it is gone when we get up in the morning. We make their bed and give them fresh towels, so we know they have been in their room--we just don't see them come and go every day.

We are conveniently located about 25 minutes from MIS on highway 12 in Jonesville. It's a straight shot to the the track from our house. The traffic controllers have been very good at getting people in and out on race day. Even when the stands are full with about 150,000 fans, there is usually a reasonable commute back to our house.

We offer a full breakfast, but most guests opt for the "to go" breakfast on race weekend in Michigan. We give them what they want--a nice room in a smoke-free atmosphere at a reasonable distance from the track with all the comforts of home. Our NASCAR people tend to be more interested in the race than with the party atmosphere that some other fans may desire. The all night beer drinking crowd tends to stay in the campgrounds around the track. That means our guests get a good night's sleep after a long day in the August heat.

We are looking forward to the next bunch of NASCAR fans to stay with us. Mike & Nancy are already confirmed. With a little over a month to go, we still have rooms available--but that is subject to change at any moment. We love our NASCAR peeps!

Lodging for NASCAR Race at MIS--Michigan International Speedway

Every year, NASCAR has two Sprint Cup Series races at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn, Michigan. The first race is traditionally held on Father's Day weekend--the third Sunday in June. The second race is held on the third Sunday in August.

A full house at the track, along with all the workers that are required to make things run smoothly, means that around 140,000 people have needs. NASCAR races and their fans have become an iconic symbol of pop culture in the new millenium. The logistics of handling that many people is difficult to imagine. There has to be food, drink, rest areas, parking, and lodging available to take care of the throng of fans that gather for these huge events. Bringing in more food and drink and rest stations has not been a problem. Lodging, on the other hand...

Brooklyn, Michigan, is a town of about 1,200. Jackson is the nearest "big" city with a population of just 36,000. Ann Arbor, Toledo, and Detroit are much bigger cities, but they are 30, 47, and 80 miles away according to google maps. When it comes to lodging for the horde of race fans, there are not a lot of options that are convenient. Building and filling more hotel and motel rooms is not a viable option for the other 50 weekends in the year.

Many fans are relatively local and will be in and out in a day. The majority of overnight fans invade the numerous campgrounds for a very casual experience. There is only one chain hotel in Brooklyn--it's a Super 8. That means that there is an opportunity for nearby towns and villages to promote their mom and pop hotels and a fair number of bed and breakfast inns.

We own the Munro House B&B in downtown Jonesville. According to google maps, we are located 23.3 miles (about 27 minutes) from the track on U.S. highway 12. Although we typically cater to romantic couples on weekends, we reserve the house for NASCAR fans over these 2 weekends each year. Unlike some nearby properties that command a rate 5 times normal with a 7 night stay required, we hold our prices consistant with the rest of the year and only require a 2 night stay.

Some of our NASCAR people have been coming here longer than we've owned the house--10 years. Our policy towards NASCAR fans is that when you stay with us, you get dibs on the same race weekend next year. We see a lot of familiar faces for each race season. We generally contact all of last years peeps after the first of the year to see if they will be returning for the same race. Most do, but some don't. When someone opts out, that opens up a room for a first timer.

It is probably a good idea to stay 2 nights anyway. The officials get cars out of their parking lots as efficiently as possible. But the closest interstate highways are about 20 miles away, so traffic is pretty slow until you get there. When you consider waiting among 140,000 people to get in and get out of the track, race day can be a very long ordeal. Staying the night before and the night after is almost always a very good idea. If you want to also attend time trials or the Busch series race on Saturday, an additional night accommodation is a good option.

We tend to get traditional race fans--mostly couples who are here to watch the race and to watch everyone else go wild. Our clientele has been responsible and respectful. They are a very good fit for us. We don't have to worry about things getting loud or out of hand. They get a comfortable night sleep, a big breakfast, and have a straight shot to the track. Some folks leave early and we pack them breakfast to go--after all, we offer bed and breakfast.

Race fans who only want to spend one night will be lucky to find a place within an hour of the track. Most every lodging property requires a 2 night stay (or more) for these special event weekends. Find a place to stay and if you get there and like it, ask for dibs on next year's race.
