We are letting local military organizations know that we have 4 rooms available on a first come-first served basis. We are not "saving" rooms for particular groups, we are "offering" rooms to any veteran. Should an individual call to take advantage of this promotion, and they are one of the first 4 to call, they could have any available room.

This is a great idea, but some innkeepers may be unclear about how it's going to work. Are you inviting local military organizations to fill the rooms or to nominate deserving folks, or will interested individuals make their own arrangements with the innkeepers?
At Adventure Inn B&B on Lake Huron, we are offering both rooms as a thank you. Both of our fathers served honorably in World War II and we have a room commemorating their service.

Dear Savannah, Avery, and Sarah,

Ozzie is doing very well, and we just love the little guy. Our inside joke is that he suffers from permanent A.D.D. He gets so excited, it is hard for him to focus and remember a simple command like "sit". However, we have had Scotties for 31 years, and he has the most personality of any of them, and that's why he is special. He is pretty good in the house, but sometimes forgets that the entire house is not his personal playground. He is having trouble with our invisible fence outside, so we keep him tethered when he is unaccompanied in the yard. When he is off the leash, he leeps like a gazelle over and onto everything and enjoys running around the house--especially in the snow. He likes Gilbert (his room mate) but pretty much barks at every other dog that goes by. He is leary of toddlers, but loves attention from bigger people. Our pets traditionally have been kept off the furniture, but Ozzie likes to sit on top of the back of the couch to look outside. We got tired of shooing him down, so we put a blanket up there just for him. He is happy and we love him.

It is sad indeed.
I watched it happen with my own eyes, and still can hardly believe it. :(

My mom used to own the beauty salon that was in that location back in the 80's. (Flair With Hair). Now she has a much smaller location in the back parking lot, behind the bookstore.

Still, I remember the old days when I'd walk to the beauty shop after school, sitting in the back room reading or writing or whatever.

After mom switched locations, the Chicago Water Grill moved in sometime later.

As I sat there Sunday and watched the whole thing happen, I was horrified. I worried it would spread from building to building (eventually reaching mom's current salon). Also, I couldn't help thinking that the inferno was right over the spot where I had spent so much time as a young child.

Wow.

I'm SO glad that no one got hurt.
Things were bad, but they could have been so much worse.

My heart goes out to the people of CWG and May's.

I'm soooo tempted to steal your great idea for our Adventure Inn Bed and Breakfast because we have in storage a treasure trove of '40s-to-'60s hats and jewelry that belonged to Nicholas' delightfully flamboyant mother. But, with only two rooms, we don't have enough people to populate a Mystery Weekend. Have fun with yours.

I completely agree. I came across this movie after searching for movies Robin Williams was in on IMDB. He plays a very different role than I know him for in movies like Good Will Hunting and Dead Poets Society, yet he plays it well. August Rush is awesome, maybe my all time favorite movie.

Was looking online for some Scottish Terrier information, found your blog and decided to take a break and read it. Such a nice story about your wife and how you came to have your Scotties. We have one Westie, Barclay, and a Scottie, Dugan, and they are both just the best dogs. I'm so glad to know that there are other Scottie "parents" who really appreciate this special breed & personality. Not everyone does. Give Gilbert a pet from us in Maryland!
