This year it is celebrated on Monday, February 17. That makes the Valentine’s Day weekend a 3 day weekend for some workers. Regular rates are in effect for Friday and Saturday night. but on Sunday night, all rooms are discounted by $50 off the Valentine rate. For those people who can only getaway on Sunday night, the discount is available for a one night stay.
This American holiday coincides with the birthdays of two of our greatest Presidents. George Washington was born on February 22. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12. Rather than have a separate holiday for every President, they are all honored on the 3rd Monday in February. Ironically, the 3rd Monday will never fall on either of these President’s actual birthday.
On Presidents Day, ATMs will be the banker, Post Offices will be idle, court houses will be silent, and many schools will be dormant. However, factories, shops, and small businesses will treat this as just another Monday.
