Jonesville MI Veterans Day Program

We were proud and pleased to have participated in the B&Bs for Vets program again this year. Bed and Breakfasts in Michigan and across the country participate in this program that honors Veterans. We gave away 6 of our rooms to veterans at no charge for the eve of Veterans Day. A majority of our guests were from the Vietnam era with the Army, Navy, and Air Force represented. A contest was held via Facebook that released rooms at random intervals beginning in October where the first caller after the posting would win the free room. A photo of the veteran in uniform was required to verify eligibility.

The veterans arrived and gathered to tell stories and commiserate with the other service people and their partners. They spent the night in a comfortable room and regrouped for the morning meal. After a big breakfast, the Veterans Day parade was moved indoors at the last minute due to inclement weather. The Jonesville Middle School gymnasium was the site of this year’s program. The stage was filled with veterans from WWII to the present. The floor was filled with the student band and flag twirling team. The bleachers were filled with students, teachers, and citizens to the point of standing room only.

The program included the winners of the speech writing contest. Two students were picked from over 100 entries to read their speech honoring veterans. Flag twirlers performed while the student band played patriotic songs for the enjoyment of all in attendance. Everyone in the gymnasium was moved by the display of patriotism from the audience, performers, and service people.

Becoming a friend of Munro House Bed and Breakfast in Jonesville and liking the Munro House Facebook page was the first step to qualify to win a free room. Monitoring the Facebook feed and being the first to respond after a room was released was the next step. Verification of service with a photo of the veteran in uniform was the final step.

It was our pleasure to serve the veterans who have served us.
