Peak Fall Colors in Hillsdale County

Fall colors are at peak in Southern Michigan, while fallen leaf quantity is also at peak. As predicted, my walnut trees were the first in the neighborhood to be leafless, which traditionally puts the rest of the area at peak color.

Three days of high winds and rain, removed the last leaves from my black walnut trees. These conditions also caused a rapid leaf fall of every tree in the area. Temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s make the air temperature cool, but days of full sunshine make for ideal viewing conditions for the Fall colors.

The FFA and NHS students at Jonesville High School provided community service by raking yards throughout the neighborhood. My yard was one of many to be raked at no charge by young people in this great small town.
